A Good First Impression is Everything

You finally got that job you’ve been wanting and now you are facing the first day of work. We all know that first impressions mean everything. Making a good first impression at your job starts from the moment other employees set eyes on you.

We all hate office politics, but remember you are writing on a clean slate. It is most important that you be friendly to everyone you meet. People need to think you will be a pleasure to work with. Being cordial and pleasant will open up  better work relationships in the future.

Being positive at work also makes a great impression. No one likes going facing someone negative. People will avoid you and it will show in your work. Most offices require a team-like attitude to complete all the work expected. Let your new co-workers know you are willing to contribute and be part of the team.

Always do your best to arrive on time. This sets a good example and prevents resentment from your co-workers. Do not take too many breaks, as this will imply you are lazy and irresponsible.

You will fit in better with the crowd if you join them in the lunchroom. If you go off by yourself all the time they might think you're anti-social. Your work mates don’t have to become your best friends, but being socially cordial pays off in the long run. If you relax and get to know your co-workers over lunch you will build a better work relationship.

    Dear Elaine,
I have reviewed several topic areas on your very interesting DynamiCareers site.
Although I am not presently in the market for a career change, I certainly will recommend your site to my friends especially those who have children about to graduate. I realize the wealth of information that you provide would be an excellent resource for anyone who is considering a new venture. Clear and unemotional strategies are needed when one is competing with other eager and equally competent applicants.
I plan to refer to your comprehensive site as a valuable resource in the future.
    Sincerely,
    Lorrie Carmichael
