Fired After Age 50

In today’s economy, getting fired at 50 is a very scary idea. Depending on where you live you could be looking for another job for a very long time. Your impressive resume may not be enough to get another job, as there are more people applying for the same position. There are several reasons why companies are forcing out over 50 employees. Companies are looking for young blood with  fresh ideas. Also, if you have been there for years, they may be able to replace you with someone willing to work for less money.

You should keep yourself current with things in your company. If you see signs of the older crowd leaving, take action. Make sure you start documenting everything you do, any problems you face, and solutions you find, and keep this record handy. Your company retirement plan needs consideration as it is most important to protect the money you have in it. You could save your job if you are not ready to start over by taking a cut in pay. This is a hard thing to think about doing, but if the alternative of not having a job is not an option then it is worth considering.
There may be age discrimination laws for your protection. You will need to check each state to see specifics. If you have a strong case that you were fired solely on age check into this.

Being fired at an older age is scary to face. The most important thing to remember is to stay calm. With a strong working background, you have options. It is important to stay positive and focused in order to find a new career.
