There are three major steps to getting your foot in the door of the career world. By remaining positive and focused, a valuable and fulfilling career is within your reach.
The first step involves self-assessment. Begin by making an inventory of pertinent questions that reveal your habits, interests, skills, and other special talents unique to yourself. Respond by putting your answers in writing so as to be armed with a hard-copy blueprint upon which to build your career foundation. This will prepare you for all of your interviews as you begin your job search.
The second step involves a bit of elbow grease. You need to do your homework by surfing the internet to investigate what positions are compatible with the information you’ve gathered in step one. For example, if you've ascertained that you love to write, hate morning hours, enjoy typing, but need to remain at home, then begin by investigating home and web-based employment opportunities that involve writing without hourly restrictions. If you don't have internet access, visit your local library to take advantage of the rich resources available there.
Step three involves networking - both known and unknown sources. You can begin by consulting those around you who hold employment positions to which you aspire. For example, if you harbor a desire to be a hairdresser, then consult your own hairstylist to find out how to get started. Take advantage of the plethora of career counselors and career centers available locally or via the internet. If you live within close proximity to a university, college, or junior college, then make an appointment with the counseling services for those entities.
By following these simple steps and staying positive and focused, finding a career will be an easy, and an exciting journey!
