You’ve searched the want ads and found the perfect job. You’ve dropped off your application and resume. You get a phone call from the employer requesting you interview for the job. How do you prepare for this meeting in order to get the job you want? The key to getting a good job is having confident interviewing skills. Here are a few simple tips to help you have a successful interview to win you the job you want.
First, research the company, and see its history. Having knowledge of your future employer helps, them see that you are sincerely looking to have a vested interest in their company. Be able to answer questions as to why you want to work for this company.
Second, be on time for the interview. Allow yourself plenty of time to travel from your home to the company. Practice driving there and back to know just how much time to allow. Showing that you are punctual says that you are a potential employee who is both dependable and reliable. Third, be sure to bring with you an extra copy of your application, resume and references. Fourth, try to find out the interviewer’s name before the interview if possible and use it during the interview. Remain calm and remember to breathe!!
Fifth: Remember to dress for success. Wear solid colored clothes and don’t overdo the jewelry/ perfume/make-up or after-shave. These days, there are many firms out there who do not any fragrances due to allergies their other workers may have. Try on your outfit a few days before your interview to be sure you will look your best. Style your hair a few days before so you will present your best appearance. Remember that what you see in the mirror is what the employer sees when they interview you. The more prepared you are, the more successful your interview will be.
