Important Skills Employers Want


No matter which career field you are planning on entering, there are several skills employers expect you to have. People that have a positive attitude, are team players, can move up to supervisor levels and be teachable are desirable potential employees. You should have good ethics and abilities to perform a certain job or assignment and be able to manage time accurately on everyday tasks. In this era, it is a very good thing to have computer skills, since technology has advanced dramatically. Pay rates are often determined by skill sets, so the more skills you have, the bigger your potential paycheck.

Math skills are a plus, but often not required. Outline in your resume any advanced math or comprehension skills you may have. If you have not yet gone to college, consider obtaining higher education, and be sure to take as many advanced classes as possible. This will put you ahead of others seeking placement in the job force.

It is also important to be able to work with other people. You must get along with others you work with and be a part of a team to get the job done. If you are a supervisor, the ability to make schedules, charts, and work standards is very important and you must always have a positive outlook no matter what is going on that day. Communication is a very critical item in any trade. If you do not communicate any ideas or problems, it makes the job less likely to be completed. These skills are important to have, no matter what job you are applying for. Higher education and job experiences are the best ways to acquire these skills.
