Problems with Management


The first thing to remember if you are not getting along with your boss is to not be emotional. In the workplace, emotions only make problems worse. Bosses that are very commanding and domineering are usually looking for a spark of emotion or submission. The best way to handle this is not to let it show. Be polite, but show some self confidence.
On the other hand, abusive bosses are not something anyone should put up with. Even your boss has a superior, so talk to someone higher up in the company. Do not go into that conversation with accusations and opinions about your boss.  Instead, have actual events and facts which will back up your claims. Document the ways your boss has made you feel wronged or belittled. Often times, a simple explanation can fix problems, whereas yelling and accusations will have no effect.

Another thing you can do is to approach your boss with your concerns. Of course, it is always best to be prepared for the worst. There is always the chance that your superior may want to fire you. If this is the case, you may want to take up the issue with your company's Human Resources department. Sometimes, the best thing to do is have another job waiting in the wings, so you have leverage for this kind of result.

The main thing to realize is that it is not your boss' responsibility to make the employee like him/her. Employees should strive to please their boss, especially if that person’s leadership qualities are evident. There are things that can be done to improve your relationship, and possibly make work more enjoyable for everyone. One thing is to accept your boss and try to learn from him or her. Trying to change someone in power is a waste of time. Bosses can get really busy and may not seem to have time to watch everything you are doing. Showing conviction and figuring things out for yourself could change the way your relationship grows. Most of all, before raising an issue, be sure that the boss is the problem, and not yourself.
