Knowing your skills and what they are worth is important in finding your place in the professional world. Being able to gauge what you excel at will help you point out your assets to potential employers.
Your college studies will help you assess what your skills are. If you excel at writing, perhaps a career in that field will suit you best. If you are having difficulty accessing your skill set, your academic adviser may be able to help you, having worked with you during your college career. Plan your resume so that your skills stick out to whomever is reading and evaluating it.
Know what you can and can't do, especially if you are not completely familiar with the job that you are applying for. Emphasize what you know you are capable of doing and point out that you are capable of applying these skills to the remaining requirements of the job.
When you shake hands with an interviewer, take a firm grip (but not a vise grip!), because it shows confidence and self worth. Let them know that you will be an asset to the company. And be sure to describe all of your qualifications. Have a realistic salary requirement in your mind before you apply and be firm when you quote it to the interviewer. Above all, know what your skills are, and be able to apply them confidently and with professionalism.
