How many of you know people who leap out of bed in the morning, eager to see what interesting messages the e mail has produced over night? Chances are the answer to this question is ‘Not too many!’ And with good reason. Once upon a time, we were greeted on a periodic basis by informative and interesting messages from our friends and family.
These days, we are barraged by an endless assortment of commercials for products we have absolutely no interest in and no desire to buy. If we aren’t being pelted by messages from irrelevant companies, we’re receiving jokes, stories, porn, chain letters and worse yet--viruses from those people masquerading as our friends--but who ought to know better!. Somehow, ferreting amongst all of those inconsequential communications has become a whole lot less fun.
In fact, e mail has become a downright annoyance and many of us resent the inordinate amount of time it takes us to excerpt that one little tidbit of information for which we’ve been waiting so eagerly.
Increasingly, we are using our e mail less and less for messages of any substance. Sad to say, the system is rapidly deteriorating and being eroded by other forms of less intrusive communications. Newer forms such as instant messaging and sites such as FaceBook or LinkedIn--where users can control the parties with whom they communicate--are gradually taking precedence.
SO: job hunters: now would be a very good time to refine your FB site and polish your blogging skills. Who knows which employers will be out there looking to identify promising new talent for their companies?
